Our Method

Years of research and experience have gone into creating our Playful Immersion™ for Implicit Absorption™ programs. Gogo Lingo uses games, music, humor and silliness in an immersive environment to allow kids to comfortably learn a foreign language within a context that involves natural, stimulating and meaningful communication.

This means that:

  • We don't directly translate target vocabulary. Instead, we allow meaning to be inferred through lots of great visuals. When there isn't a visual way to convey meaning, or if we know that a child is struggling, we do rely on some translation to make sure that our young learners stay motivated and feel supported. Over time, we slowly decrease the translation until the once struggling child is completely comfortable in a full-immersion environment.
  • We present learning in multiple ways, through our variety of games and activities, taking into account children's different learning styles and "multiple intelligences".
  • Our main character "Gogo Lingo" uses shorter sentences and simpler vocabulary to help ensure understanding. Research has shown that language learning is facilitated through the use of simpler speech, often referred to as "caretaker speech" or "motherese", similar to the way a mom speaks with her child.
  • By asking questions, giving directions and providing feedback in the foreign language, we provide children with an extended listening period that makes them more familiar with the new vocabulary and grammar, helping them to build their confidence. As our young learners gain experience playing Gogo Lingo, our program adapts to their higher level of proficiency, increasing their amount of "immersion" in the foreign language until each child is immersed 100% in the second language!
